Setting up an LLC in Louisiana

An LLC in Louisiana is a legal arrangement that protects your assets (like your home, car, and bank account) in case your business is sued.

An LLC can be used to run a business or hold assets like real estate, cars, boats, or planes.

Setting up an LLC  takes a few steps. Search the state database for your Louisiana LLC’s name and choose your Louisiana Registered Agent.

File your Louisiana LLC

Send your Articles of Organisation to the Secretary of State and wait for your LLC to be accepted.

Your LLC can be registered by mail or online. In both cases, you have to pay $100 to file. If you file your LLC by mail, it will be approved in 3–5 working days, plus the time it takes to get there unless you pay an extra $30 to file quickly. If you file your LLC online, getting approved takes 3–5 business days.

Learn more about all your fees by looking at LLC Cost.

If your LLC is in one of these parishes, you can’t file by mail (it will be denied). You must file your LLC online.

Once your LLC has been accepted

After your  LLC is accepted, finish your  LLC Operating Agreement and get your Louisiana EIN Number (also called a Federal Tax ID Number) from the IRS.

To keep your Louisiana LLC in good standing, you must file a LLC Annual Report and pay  LLC Taxes annually. The fee for the Annual Report is $30, and it can be sent in by mail or online.
