Starting an LLC in Massachusetts

Massachusetts LLC is a formal structure that protects your home, car, and bank account in case your business is sued.

An LLC can be used to run a business or hold assets like real estate, cars, boats, or planes.

It’s easy to set up an LLC. Search the state database for your Massachusetts LLC’s name and choose your  Registered Agent.

Send your  Certificate of Organisation to the Secretary of the Commonwealth and wait for your LLC to be accepted.

You can either file your LLC by mail or online. The fee is $500 if you file by mail. The fee is $520 if you file online. In both cases, getting approval takes 1-2 business days.

Check out LLC Cost to determine how much everything will cost.

After your LLC is accepted, finish your Massachusetts LLC Operating Agreement and get your Massachusetts EIN Number (also called a Federal Tax ID Number) from the IRS.

You also have to file a  LLC Annual Report.

Annually to keep your LLC  in good standing. If you file by mail, the fee is $500. If you file online, the fee is $520.

Then you should see if your LLC needs any Massachusetts Business Licences. It depends on where your LLC is and what it does for a living. And you should keep track of all the  LLC Taxes you must pay. We suggest that your small business hire a CPA to help with this.
